20 Celebrities Who Attempted Suicide

Ronda Rousey: In 2016, the MMA fighter revealed that she thought of suicide after losing to Holly Holm in 2015.  She revealed that she thought about it when her undefeated streak ended. The love of her friends, family and Travis Browne kept her alive.

Drew Barrymore: the actress is also a film producer, screenwriter and TV producer. She attempted suicide when she was just 14 years old with a knife to cut her wrist.

Elton John:  was born in Pinner, London, UK and now 70 years old. He tried to commit suicide by breathing in the deadly gases from a gas stove. He wrote the song “Someone Saved My Life Tonight” about the event.

Halle Berry: the actress is also a model, voice actor and film producer. She attempted suicide after her marriage to David Justice ended.

Owen Wilson: the actor was born in Dallas, Texas. He is known for roles in Wedding Crashers and Midnight in Paris. He reportedly attempted suicide in 2007 by slitting his wrist.

Princess of Wales Diana: she tried throwing herself down a flight of stairs because she was so distraught over the way that Prince Charles was treating her.

Johnny Cash: he tried to commit suicide in 1969 while he was high on drugs by getting lost in the Nickajack Cave.

Tina Turner: she is a pop star, choreographer, record producer, and author. She revealed that she tried to kill herself in 1986 in her autobiography.

Artie Lange: comedian Artie Lange attempted suicide by stabbing himself multiple times with a knife in 2010.

Vanilla Ice: the rapper first entered stardom in 1990 for his Ice Ice Baby Single. Vanilla Ice (Robert Van Winkle) intentionally tried to overdose on heroin in 1994.

Shelley Long: best known for her role as Diane Chambers on the show Cheers. She attempted suicide by overdosing on painkillers in 2004.

Greg Louganis: a little trivia, he was given advice for physical training because of asthma.  The diver attempted suicide three times during his teenage years.

Sinéad O’Connor:  she attempted suicide in 2012 by overdosing on pills. The singer later called the incident “a cry for help.”

Peter Fonda: shot himself in the stomach a few months after his mother committed suicide. Fonda was only 10 years old at the time and calls the incident an “accident,” but many people believe that he was attempting to end his life.

Brian Wilson:  Beach Boys singer Brian Wilson is rumored to have attempted suicide in the 1980s. A little trivia about him: He co-wrote hit songs, such as Surfin’ USA and Good Vibrations.

Patty Duke:  Patty attempted suicide many times before she was diagnosed as a manic depressive. She’s known for her roles as Neely O’Hara (Valley of the Dolls).

Nell Carter: before stardom, she was into youth groups, radio work and church choir. She attempted suicide in the early 80s after becoming addicted to drugs.

Gary Coleman:  the actor just stands 4’8″ due to problems with his hormones and kidneys. He attempted to commit suicide twice, both times by overdosing on pills.

Mike Wallace: TV personality Mike Wallace was severely depressed in a particular moment of his life. This caused him to try ending his life when he was 60 years old.

Nina Simone: one of her first hits was her version of “I Love You Porgy.” The actress tried to end her life in the 1970s by taking too many sleeping pills.
